Imagine telling your significant other about something you really want—
dropping hints, hoping they’ll understand—
but you never quite say it.
Then, when they miss it, you blame them for not knowing.
But it was you who didn’t know how to ask.
Or imagine someone you love is hurting—crying over something you did—
and you have no idea why.
You apologize over and over,
but it doesn’t help.
You’re saying all the wrong things.
You say “I love you,” and they don’t say it back.
In every case, we only grow if we blame ourselves.
If we get too comfortable in the way we speak,
we fall into delusion—
thinking we’re saying the right things,
but rarely do.
This is how I’ve learned to pray to God
