The Healing Cup
Today is the cup, and everything in it is medicine.
Let it be known—medicine is not always pleasant,
but healing always leads us closer to life.
For some, every day leads us closer to death;
for others who heal, it leads to life eternal.
However, even those who heal must still drink the cup.
And Christ says, “Must I not drink this cup?”
So too must we drink our own.
We must accept everything unto salvation.
Should we be diagnosed with cancer tomorrow,
let us rejoice at the opportunity to strengthen our faith and love in Christ,
and accept the spiritual weight as muscle given to bear more love.
The muscles grow by strain—so too can the soul.
In sickness, let us not despair but rejoice.
In abundance, let us be humbled.
Let us measure our disease by the things we need
and the medicine we receive.
Let us measure our healing by the things we renounce.
He who does not have money or health but still loves Christ
is far richer than one who has both and gives Him only a penny of his heart.
Should the rich man be stripped of his wealth,
the broken man would be healed.
For the healthy soul desires Heaven,
while the man who has all still aches within.
The world that loses all but love
is the world that lives in God.
